HATE SPEECH IN NEW MEDIA: CASE OF EKSI SÖZLÜK

Today one of media in which hate speech is most produced and circulated is new media. Participatory, user-derived and decentralized structure of new media puts it privileged and a superior position across traditional media. But on the other hand, its these features cause to be produced widespread and uncontrolled of hate speech. This study handles hate speech on Eki Sözlük which is one of Turkey’s most widely used social media networks. In the framework of growing anti-Semitism in Turkey after the military operation on Gaza by Israel in July 2014 hate speech against Jews on Eki Sözlük was examined. The aim of this study is to draw attention to the hate speech on Eki Sözlük and in new media. Also this study aims to put forth that internet users’ comments insult, otherize and even target to hate crime a person or a group.
