In today’s intense competitive environment, information has emerged as a source of power for both individuals and institutions. Media tools, which their main task is to produce and disseminate knowledge/information, should give the top priority to the public interest as they produce that is becoming more of an issue in the era of spreading information rapidly and widely. However, nowadays, it can be seen that the traditional media tools which have become more commercialized due to the monopolization rather than meeting people’s expectations and wishes, have lost their basic functions of informing and educating the public. The emergence of the digital media platforms due to the development of new communication technologies and internet as a global network has enabled information to be transferred quickly, instantly and interactively. Digital media, in which the user/reader can actively participate in the production of content, can enhance democratic process by comprising people with different opinions. Nowadays, readers can generate news through various social sharing platforms, blogs and news sites, and they also can select the news content based on their interests and expectations. Digital media platforms in which readers’ interests and expectations can be measured in various ways, can provide opportunities for alternative journalism practices. An approach of journalism that puts the readers’ wishes and expectations at the center in digital media platforms is important to achieving the ideal news and journalism. In this study, it is emphasized that digital media, with its own characteristics, gives an important power to the reader in the news production process.
