The term “Baston” has entered into Turkish language from the Italian term Baton. It is defined in the dictionary of Turkish Language Institution as “A tool that is made from wood or metal which is used to lean on during walking”. Its dates back as early as the history of mankind and it has been produced and already produced in various regions of Istanbul and Anatolia. The places where its production is currently widespread are Bal?kesir - Kozak Highlands, Bart?n, Bitlis-Ahlat, Bolu, Istanbul-Beykoz, Izmir and Zonguldak-Devrek. The Devrek Baton tradition which has a justifiable reputation is inherited from father to son, from master to apprentice throughout the history and has already been evolved into an artistic craftsmanship.Baton craftsmanship which comprise to a significant branch of the tradition Turkish handicrafts and which is made from wood contain rich types which dates back to old ages in our history. Devrek Baton handicraft has reached to the present through having inherited from father to son, and from master to apprentice by changing and developing by time. The oldest traditional techniques and the latest fresh and multi-colored methods are combined in production of Devrek baton. Hence the authenticity, uniqueness and richness of Devrek batonis originated from this point.Within this framework, we emphasize to inherit the traditional handcrafts and its products to the future generations through certification works before it shall become extinct. In this paper it is sought to investigated and certify the Baton production in Devrek District.
