“FIRST RUSSIAN WARSHIP “KREPOST” AND ISTANBUL EMBASSY OF UKRAINTSEV (1699-1700)”

Abstract

Author(s): Fatih ÜNAL

Ottoman Emperium signed peace treaties with states of holy alliance at Karlofca except Russia. Ottoman and Russian negotiators just signed an armistice for two years. Tsar Petro whom was seeking to have acces to open seas accepted that Black Sea route was closed by Ottomans, so he decided to struggle with Sweden forces at the Baltic. For this reason he was trying to sign a peace treaty with Ottomans immediately. Therefore he sent a peace delegation to Istanbul under the supervision of Ukraintsev. But the delegation followed Black Sea route by a Russian warship instead of traditional land route and this created an argument between two sides. In this research we tried to illuminate the adventure of warship “Krepost” at Black Sea and Istanbul and the peace talks with Russian ambassador.
