EXAMINING THE VIEWS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS ON PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

The aim of this research it to reveal out the views of prospective teachers on professional expectations. The study was conducted via qualitative research method. Phenomenological research design was used in the study. 29 volunteer prospective teachers selected by maximum variation sampling and criterion sampling were participated in the study. Semi structured interview form developed by the researcher was the data collection tool of the study. The results indicated that there have been internal, external, altruist and expedient reasons in the choice of the profession and teachers have some social, individual and professional expectations. The prospective teachers indicted that individual, profession’s nature and also politics can prevent their expectations from being fulfilled. The other striking result was that if they had chance to alter their departments, they uttered that they would choose psychology, architecture and translator as a profession.
