Author(s): Meltem KKTAN, Filiz YILDIRIM

It is important to understand the violence which the women are exposed to depending on gender-based inequalities and to find a solution for. Because the dimension and form of violence cannot be easily detected. For instance, the gender-based domestic violence can be considered as a private problem of the family and this case of violence may not be possible to be recorded. However, it is highly crucial to understand that the violence deemed as an individual problem has a societal background in terms of widening the scope of the struggle against violence. For this reason, there are important responsibilities against gender-based violence to be shouldered by professionals primarily working in this field. This review study describes the importance of empowering women against gender-based violence in struggle against inequality and discrimination from social work perspective.
