The aim of this study is to investigate the emotional intelligence levels of 7th grade secondary school students and to determine their opinions about emotional intelligence. The research was conducted in 2014-15 academic year in a state school located in the city center of Eski?ehir in Turkey. In the research, a mixed method that utilizes qualitative and quantitative data together was used. In the research Bar-On emotional intelligence scale which was translated by Köksal (2007), was used as emotional intelligence inventory with adolescent and teenager form(EQ-i (YV)). EQ-i (YV) scale was utilized for the 7th grade students of the specified school. Semistructured interviews were conducted for twelve students choosen by using stratified sampling method from 86 students that the scale was utilized. In this research, descriptive analysis were used for the analyses of data obtained via semi-structured interviews. As a result of this study, emotional intelligence levels of students that involve like being flexible and optimistic in seven different dimensions such as interpersonal and adaptability were determined. As a result of the research, it was observed that 7th grade secondary school students usually have different levels of emotional intelligence as high and medium levels. In line with the numerical distribution of the students, levels of emotional intelligence stress management is closer to the average, but it is on average covered all other dimensions. However it was understood that the students exhibit their nearest state average sub-dimension is positive impression. It was emerged that students opinions consistent with their emotional intelligence level.
