Mehmed Fevzi Efendi was a poet and a scholar of islamic law. He was a profilic figure who produced numberless literary and scholarly works on religious issues. His literary work is mostly focused on love for the prophet Mohammed in the form of miraciyye ( a description of the Mi’raj, the night journey and the ascension of the Prophet Mohammed to heaven), regaibiyye ( literary work describing the night of conception of Prophet Mohammed ), naat (poetry praising the Prohet Mohammed). He is the author of three pieces of work in the genre of mawlid, which are the most beautiful examples of work on love for the Mohammed. Mehmed Efendi is a literay and scholary figure who deserves to be studied in terms of mawlid literature. He contributed to this genre in a time when the recitation of mawlid and its legitimacy with respect to islamic law was under question. This article discusses Mehmed Fevzi Efendi and his mawlid, ?cmaül Kelam (the sum of words).
