In the study, the relationship between tourism and environment was mentioned about and, examining the effects tourism creates on environment, the importance of sustainable tourism was emphasized. In the framework of sustainability searches in tourism, information was given about the new trends that emerge. Later, the general principles of trekking tourism and its distinction from mass tourism and features of trekking tourism were mentioned about. After the general attributes of trekking based tourism were determined, the activities carried out under trekking tourism and sub- branches of trekking tourism were mentioned about. In this context, in the scope of trekking tourism, the counties of Dereli, Bulancak and Central of Giresun were handled. In these counties, in the light of the findings obtained from the studies on trekking tourism , a place Giresun and its vicinity have in trekking tourism were specified and several suggestions toward developing the sorts of trekking based tourism were presented
