The term “digital” is defined as “displaying the datum electronically on a screen” in Current Turkish Dictionary of Turkish Language Association (www.tdk.gov.tr). The term digital can be used as a synonym of “quantitative” in terms of content. Digital technology can be explained as several technological tools-equipment and machines in which there are significant information flowing on an electronic screen. These tools are known as camera, photo machine, computer, mobile phone, LCD television, CNC lathe machine, watch, game machine, electronic water meter, sphygmomanometer etc. according to their area of use. In our age these tools are being used as high tech products. Entrance of digital technology into human life, adaptation of it by the society and turning into a culture enabled the digital photography which is a product of digital technology to be used frequently in daily lives of peoples. These developed technology products which are existing in homes or work places of many people or even being carried on make daily lives easier. Today the mobile phones which have advanced photo capturing features are the most important one among these tools and also they can act as an easily usable photo machine which also is a tool for verbal communication. In the production process of photograph which is one of the important visual communication materials of our age revolutionary changes has occurred in respect of technology. The most important of these is production of photographs with quantitative/digital technology. Thanks to the digital technological tools-equipment which showed a great development in the latest era of the Technology Age and existence of an unreal virtual world built with these tools people can communicate with other people who are thousands kilometres away from them within seconds and make data exchange. It can be said that the most important element used in this data exchange is photograph. The photographs are at most effective materials position which has a high possibility of coding in a catchy way during perception, interpretation, association and recording processes. That is why one of the most important elements used in data exchange is photograph. By way of the opportunities given by the digital tools and developed software, photograph is turning into a new expression language by getting out of ordinariness and contributes to photograph art directly as a product. Being described as combination of technique and aesthetic the photograph art can be recreated with image processing and effect application techniques applied via computer. In this study digital technology, effects of digital technology on photograph art, production of digital photograph, processing, area of usage and its effects on art and design has been examined. As a result, it is seen that digital technology has a significant effect on the art of photography.
