DETERMINATION OF KNOWLEDGE LEVEL OF STUDENTS ABOUT ECOTOURISM WHO ARE HAVING TOURISM EDUCATION

Ecotourism, a kind of nature-based tourism in the world and Turkey in the 21st century, draws attention as an important concept. Ecotourism is a kind of tourism that protects the social and cultural integrity of the earth while securing the sustainability of the natural resources, as well as supporting the economic development of the local people. In addition to being known as nature tourism, it is also focusing on environmental protection. Ecotourism should have a sustainable, economically viable, social and psychologically acceptable structure from an environmental standpoint. In this direction, Turkey has always been the focus of eco-tourists, with the rich natural and cultural resources of the world and countries with biodiversity. In this study, the concept of ecotourism was discussed and the applications made in the world and in Turkey were examined and the level of awareness about ecotourism was investigated on the students who were educated in Gazi University tourism faculties. The data were collected by survey technique and 260 students participated in the study.
