DETERMINATION OF EROSION SENSITIVITY AREAS IN MUT BASIN

Abstract

Author(s): Yakup KIZILELMA, Murat KARABULUT

This study’s purpose, besides determining the sensitive areas to erosion in primarily Mut (Pirinçsuyu and Kurtsuyu streams) basin is to prove the capacity and talent of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing technologies in guessing the erosion. In basin to determine the sensitive areas to erosion the USLE equation is preferred. For the all parameters in USLE thematic layers were produced in Geographic Information System. Land cover/land uses of study area (Factor C) were determined by using NDVI techniques and unsupervised classification and benefiting from update satellite images. Three different erosion sensitive maps were produced as a result of including factor C in system by using the data of remote sensing and land use data which were produced by Village Service General Management. According to sensitive maps; high resemblance was seen in the result of using Remote Sensing techniques.
