DETECTIVE NOVELS AS A LITERARY PRODUCT OF THE MODERN SOCIETY AND SEXISM IN DETECTIVE NOVELS

Abstract

Author(s): Selin ATALAY

Building on the assumption that literary works carry many social facts, this article concentrates on the analysis of detective novels. Detective novels, especially the ones which are part of the popular literature, are built on Western world’s notions of justice, law and social order. In detective novels, social order prevails in the war against the ones who are marked ‘guilty’ by the society. In this regard, this article also strives to see the place given to Woman in the reconstruction of social order at the fictional level and accordingly to understand the opportunities the modern society holds for women.
