DETECTIONS ABOUT THE ORAL READING SKILLS OF TURKISH LEARNING SYRIAN STUDENTS: GAZİANTEP UNIVERSITY SAMPLE

The target of this research is to find out the status of B1 level Turkish learning Syrian students’ oral reading skills and to detect the reading errors if there are any. The study group of the research consists of 17 students (6 girls, 11 boys) who learn B1 level Turkish in TÖMER, Gaziantep University during 2017-2018 Educational Year. First of all, the students were asked to silently read the text titled “Clothing in Anatolia” from Yeni Hitit 2 Yabac?lar ?çin Türkçe Ders Kitab? (B1), TÖMER, Ankara University. When the students got familiar with the text, volunteers read it aloud and their readings were recorded via a recording device. At the end of the study, the recorded data were analyzed via the decoding method and then the errors were listed with regard to their frequency. According to the findings of the research, it was established that the participants experienced problems about correct articulation in terms of oral reading skills. It was observed that the students made mistakes especially with the letters “a, e, u, ü, ?, i, o, ö, ç, ?, k, p, t”; and the most commonly mispronounced letters were “?, ü, ö”.
