DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION IN THE COURSE OF HISTORY (CURRENT SITUATION AND THINGS TO DO)

Democracy is a value that is expected to be internalized and characterized by people in today’s world. School and family are promoted as the most significant organizations in instilling this value. One of the most appropriate subjects in teaching democracy and human rights is the course of history. The purpose of the study is to analyse the current situation related to democracy and human rights training in the curriculum of history courses, the history course books, and the classroom applications in Turkey. A qualitative research method was adopted together with document analysis. As a result, insufficiency was identified in terms of democracy and human rights in the curriculum of history courses and course books as well as in the classroom environment.
