sa b. Eban lived in Baghdad around the end of the 2nd century and the beginning of the 3rd century (Hijrah Calender). He was belonged to the Ahl al-Hadith (school of Hadith) but then affiliated with Ahl ar-ra'y (school of thought) after he met with Imam (leader) Muhammed b. Hasan el-?eybani. He played an important and pioneer role in the emergence and systematization of the Hanafi fiqh method. The khabar (narrative) theory of the Hanafi madhhab particularly was shaped by his arguments. His ideas were the object of the issues both the scholars of his madhhab and others. Mainly Cessas, Debusi, Serahsi and Pezdevi referred him in many narratives. Isa b. Eban is an important scholar who affected the Hanafi madhhab with his methodology. For this reason, we have decided to conduct this study, considering that his understanding of Hadith/Sunnah is worth investigating. In these study, Isa b. Eban’s influence on the formation of the Hanafi madhhab and some of his arguments on the fiqh methodology were examined. Especially the khabar, types of the khabar and the related judgements and conditions of the amal (action) are evaluated. Finally, a general summary of the findings is presented in the conclusion section.
