Abstract

Author(s): Nur Ahmet KURBAN

Throughout our history, we, the Muslims, are proud of the book entitled Qur’an and handed down to our age with preservation of Allah. In understanding the Holy Qur’an, thousands of books have been written or classified. Contributions of non-Arab scholars are as great as that of Arab scholars in formation of such comprehensive work collection. Known as mevali (non-Arabs), they had gained the position of being valued individuals while the era of the Holy Prophet and the Caliphs on true path; and have preserved their important position in interpretation of Qur’an as well as other fields. On the other hand, it can easily be stated that the mevali interpreters had brought the understanding of the Holy Qur’an different point of view with their own comments. In fact, it can be said that the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an began to undergo a change from that of the era of the Holy Prophet, and even experienced the turning point in this period. Probably therefore, too many things have been said about them positively or negatively in the history. In this study, we try to investigate background of this view little more deeply.
