For many years, the utmost importance has been given to highway transport in Turkey and other transportation types have been neglected. However, as in the countries that are constantly evolving, within recent years, different types of transports have begun to be emphasized in Turkey as well. Transportation types would be entitled to certain advantages and disadvantages compared to other transportation types. Safety, speed, tidiness, comfort, affordability and adaptability to the surroundings are crucial in determining the type of transportation that would meet people’s needs. People prefer to be accommodated by the type of transport that can attain those features. This study aims to examine types, characteristics of transportation types as well as transportation types of passenger and cargo transportation data in Turkey and consequently the comparison of transportation types in terms of passenger and freight transportation activities.
