COMPARISON OF READING HABITS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ACCORDING TO DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS (SAMPLE OF AMASYA CITY)

The purpose of this research is to determine the attitudes of students who study in high schools towards their reading habits and the relation between reading habits according to some demographic characteristics. The study group of the study consists of 252 high school students in Amasya province center. Personal information form was used to determine the demographic characteristics (gender, age, school type, classroom and sporting situation) of students participating in the research and the "reading habit attitude scale" developed by Gömleksiz (2004) was used to determine attitudes to reading. SPSS 18 program was used for statistical analysis of the data. In the analysis of the data, '' frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, skewness and kurtosis values, t test, ANOVA test and multiple comparison tests were used. Statistical significance was accepted as .05. According to the results of the research, the average score of the students' reading habits was determined at a high level (?=120.24). There were statistically significant differences between students' average scores and subscales of reading habits according to gender, age, school type, class and sporting situation.
