Author(s): Nesrin ORUÇ, Berna YAVUZ

When the numbers of the materials in the field of foreign language teaching are considered, it becomes vital for the teacher trainees in their future teaching career to have the ability to evaluate, choose and criticize the right course book for them. Nowadays, in most of the institutions where foreign language teaching is provided, the evaluation of a course book has been done without a careful planning, generally according to the advertisements of the publishers, school’s preferences, the price of the book, its visuality or the recommendations of the colleagues. This study has been conducted with 86 last year students of Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Faculty of Education, English Language Teaching Department in the academic year 2006-2007. The results of the questionnaire which were analyzed by SPSS 1,3 indicate clear evidence about the future English language teachers’ views and opinions on course book evaluation and their function in the field.
