AZERBAIJAN: ACCORDING TO THE ISLAMIC GEOGRAPHERS

In the article, the region of Azerbaijan and it’s political, socio-cultural, commercial and religious status will be explained according to Islam geographers (9-10. century) before the influx of Seljuk (Turkomans). After explaining the name of Azerbaijan in ancient times and where it came from, the status of region at Sassanid and Islamic era will be given. Then information about important administrative centers in the state and the region will be described. Meanwhile, information about the region's three major city (Ardabil, Maragha and Tabriz) -provided by the Muslim geographers- will be processed and will be analyzed. Thus, the situation in the 9th and 10th centuries of Azerbaijan that took the bridge of Turkmen migration to Anatolia at Seljuk and Ilkhanid period will tried to reveal.
