Averroes (1126-1198), lived in Andalusia in the 12th century, is an important Islamic philosopher. He offered solutions to the philosophical problems of his time but he is well known as a commentator of Aristotle’s texts. In addition to the comment explanation of the logic, by making the subject of debate the criticisms directed to Aristotle, he shows his original approach in response to these criticisms. Essential and correlational state of subject, predicate and copula is just one of controversial issues. In the context, commentators such as A. Alexander and Fârâbî criticized Aristotle because he did not accept “copula” as one of elements of proposition. In this article, we aim to analysis these two philosophers’ criticisms of Aristotle regarding definition of “term” on Averroes’ defense axis.
