ANALYSIS OF GEOGRAPHIC SYMBOLS USED IN SAMSUN MUNICIPAL LOGOS

Natural and cultural attractions are the most important geographical sources of cities. These charms are the symbol of the city and are the source of the logos of the municipalities. The logos of municipalities play an important role in the promotion and image of the city. Inspired by the physical and human geography features of cities, these logos have an active role in the promotion of the city. Many physical and human geographic elements can be found in the logos of Samsun and district municipalities. In this study, geographical symbols of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality and 17 district municipality logos were investigated. The geographical characteristics of the cities and the symbols of the logos were compared and a symbol with 63 geographical elements was identified in the 18 municipal logo. Physical and Human Geography elements occupy an important place in the logos of Samsun municipalities
