AN OVERVIEW TO “GANGRA” IN ANTIQUE TIMES BEFORE TURKISH DOMINATION

The Roman Empire became a patron of Christian world, which has hosted one of the most important consul“Çank?r?” which, as in use to you name known in the literature outside today in Turkey, especially with reference to the ancient world, the name “Gangra”. In this article, as an important result, the origin of the name “Gangra” = “Cankiri”, which is a toponym, has been revealed by looking at the etymology (origins) of linguistics, and an analysis has been made within the framework of the information suggested in various sources by reviewing the language, history and folklore information in Western sources. As one of the ancient world cities in Anatolia, “Cankiri” before the Turkish domination, “Gangra” (Γαγγρ?ν) in ancient times, with a panoramic methodology through sources containing historical findings and findings, the place of the city in the literature was determined by supporting with pictures; It contributed to the understanding of its place in cultural life by revealing its important position in the language and history center
