The language is reflected in the culture and directs it. Culture is also fed by language and kneaded with language. There is an interaction between language and culture. The idioms, which are the products of this interaction, mostly exist as the carriers of the oral culture. The idioms that contribute to the ability of the individual to understand and explain are stereotypical, short and concise language associations that are accepted by the society and that bring liveliness to the expression by using them outside of their real meanings. In Turkology, idioms have been the subject of many studies both in terms of definition and concept. In this article, after mentioning how idioms are defined and interpreted in the field of Turcology, the connotation method that helps to reveal the implicit meaning in idioms and the principles of this method are mentioned. Later, some of the idioms that the concept of 'water' goes through are examined and these idioms are examined according to the similarity, closeness and contrast principles, which are the three main elements of the connotation method. Thus, it is tried to be determined according to the principle of the connotation method of the concept of 'water' in the idioms. Connotation is an important method to convey the real meaning in the text or the real plane to be expressed. As the idioms are tried to be presented with a little language unity in a multilayered meaning, the person can perceive the main message through his previous experiences. The principles of this method are important in the perception of this message
