Having been born to a family of Azeri origin in Revan in 1895, Gaffar Güney came to Turkey in the early ages of his life, and attracted attention with his skills in training and translation. With his translations in 1940s, he contributed the Turkish people to develop familiarity with and enjoy the classics of the Russian literature, and had a great influence on his students.
