Author(s): Aytuğ ARSLAN

The two basic criteria for evaluating the performance of the museumin the tourism industry are the number of visitors and revenue. The level of success is found out according to the quantity of them. However, the museum is non-profit entity in spite of its close relationship with the tourism. Furthermore, the traditional, monumental and open airmuseums around Turkey have specific features such as location, collection, accessibility, structure and place. These features cause the differences in the method of management, target audience, promotion and pricing policies at the museums. Any assessment not taking this fact into consideration will reveal misleading results. In this study, the share of ?stanbul Archaeological Museums within the tourism sector is evaluated in the light of the statistical data through these views.
