AN ANALYSIS OF THE FILM “UZAK” IN TERMS OF FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF EXISTENTIAL THERAPY

The aim of this study is to explain fundamental concepts of existential therapy and to scrutinize the scenes relevant to these concepts in the movie titled "Uzak". For this purpose, the fundamental concepts of existential therapy, which are being-in-the-world, anxiety, life and death, freedom, responsibility and choices, isolation and love, meaning and meaninglessness, self-transcendence, authenticity are described, below each of which the scenes associated with the described concept are presented. In scope of the study, the loneliness of the hero of the plot, Mahmut, the loss of the meaning of his life, choices which Yusuf makes by assuming responsibility, and the "void" he falls into after gradually losing his life values in the big city he moves with the hope to find a job, are all explained in terms of existential therapy. In conclusion, the movie "Uzak" was observed to be suitable for interpretation in terms of existential therapy.
