Alexander is a very well known name in both in the West and in the East due to his big campaign which started in the West and ended up in India. In time he became a mythological and legendary character by the help of colorful and rich imaginative and religious world of the East. Eventually, mythical stories emerged about him and his life and he was turned into a religious figure. Books dedicated to only his life had been written in Persian and Turkish literature and a new genre called Iskendername had emerged. The name called Iskender-i Zülkarneyn has often appeared in separate works as well as in Divans. Poets refer to many subjects about him in their kasidahs, ghazal and other poems. Especially the mirror and the wall believed that commissioned by him and the fountain of youth which he sought but could not find have been handled in various ways in Divans. Moreover, his nobility, power, strength, zeal, knowledge, justice and other characteristics have been subjected in poets’ other verses namely mostly in kasidahs. This paper will focus on such matters and similar subjects and reveal how divan poets refer to him.
