This study aims to build a bridge of values between the past and present day. To do so, the values in the novel by Ahmet Midhat Efendi, whose effort to teach values even in 19th century was realized, have been determined.
The study has employed the scanning method within the qualitative research approach and the findings have been gathered by document analysis. The data has been presented by content analysis.
Ahmet MidhatEfendi showed the consequences of losing national and moral values while emphasizing the scientific features of the West. National, educational, aesthetical, social, political, moral and religious values highlighted in the novel are still valid.
The values in the novel correspond with the values stated in the Primary Education program and Overall Objectives of Turkish National Education System.
