ADANA PARLEYS AND EFFECTS IN WORLD WAR II

Abstract

Author(s): Cevdet TEKE

Adana Parleys, which were important milestone efforts to embroil Turkey to World War II, were held when the war went against Germany. The decisions taken in Casablanca Conference with the result of Stalingrad battle in November 1942 were the important developments on the way of Adana Parleys. With its crucial strategic location Turkey had to be involved in war with allies. Adana Parleys were performed with this regard. Meanwhile, Turkey’s main goal in Adana Parleys and overall 2nd world war without adventurism in the course , the highlight of the beginning allegiance to one side and trying to stay out of the war as much as possible has been shaped to follow a balanced policy. Turkey followed a policy to distract England with demands that were impossible to fulfil. These Parleys were also called “Deaf Dialogs”. Because parties who attended the meeting with diametrically opposite purposes produced policies to persuade each other in meeting and both sides separated by the impression that they reached their goal.
