A STUDY ON THE RELATION OF THE CONFLICT TENDENCIES OF THE PARENTS WITH PRESCHOOL CHILDREN AND THE SOCIAL SKILLS AND PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOUR OF THEIR CHILDREN

The study has been conducted to examine the relation conflict tendencies of the parents with pre-school children and the social skills and problem behaviours of their children. The population of the study consists of children of 48-72 months attending to the nursery classes, independent kindergartens and private kindergartens of the official primary schools in the central districts of Aziziye, Palandöken and Yakutiye of the Erzurum Province in the academic year of 2015-2016. The sample of the study consists of 577 children and their parents who were determined by the random cluster sampling method. The study used the “General Knowledge Form” the “Social Skill Scale”, the “Problem Behaviour Scale” and “Conflict Tendency Scale”. As a result of the study; It was found that the conflict tendencies of the parents varied according to the variables like parents, education status of mother, occupation of mother and occupation of father (p<.0.05); but didn’t education status of father (p>0.05). A negative and insignificant relation was found between the scores of children from the “Social Skill Scale” and the scores of their mothers from the “Conflict Tendency Scale” (p>0.05). A negative and significant relation was found between the scores of the children from the total of the “Social Skill Scale” and the scores of their fathers from the subdimensions of the “Conflict Tendency Scale” namely Intensity (r=-,183) and Personal (r=-,201) (p<0.05). A significant relation was found between the scores of children from the “Problematic Behaviour Scale” and the scores of their mothers from all subdimensions of the “Conflict Tendency Scale” (p<0.05). A positive and significant relation was found between the scores of the children from the Antisocial subdimension of the “Problematic Behaviour Scale” and the scores of their fathers from the subdimension of the “Conflict Tendency Scale” namely Passive Conflict (r=-,168).
