A STUDY ON RECREATIONAL USE OF DAM RESERVOIRS AND SURROUNDING: A CASE STUDY FROM DERINER-ARTVIN, TURKEY

Deriner Dam and its surroundings has on; important recreation potential not only for the geopraphical location, climate, flora, traditional cultural features but also for the diversity of natural and cultural geography. But this area is not known as a recreation area by the most of Artvin citizens. Altough the field which may be determined around the dam lake recreation area is nearby the downtown and driving way is easy to go, participation to the route is not enough, Thus the field can not be used efficiently. Deriner Dam and its surroundings area should be introduced in a better way to people whose needs are increasing through recreation areas. Natural and cultural characteristics in the dam areas and surroundings are used for tourism and recreational. Dam and surroundings areas have a strong recreational potential due to the number and diversity of the cultural and natural landscape elements. In this research, it was aimed to determine tourism and recreational possibilities by using SWOT analysis in Deriner Dam. Deriner dam province have landscape potential (socio-economic, cultural and natural properties) was investigated, tourism and recreational opportunities are identified, these possibilities are evaluated using SWOT analysis and some suggestions for the sustainable use of these areas has been introduced.
