Abstract

Author(s): Ahmet AKIN* Hüseyin Serdar ÇAKIRER**

TTFM (Traditional Turkish Folk Music) constitutes a culture and tradition on its own with its production and performance. Turkish ballads, since they are widely and deeply intervened with time and places, have a vast variety and an anonymous nature. This elaborate trait can be seen clearly in a majority of vicinages. Both native people and bards who coexist with Turkish ballads determine the musical tradition as well as are influenced by it. At this point, “Zaral? Halil SÖYLER”, the subject of the research, is one of the most recognizable representatives of TTFM. It is aimed to gain information about the musical structure of the ballads of Zaral? Halil SÖYLER, for which, 10 of his ballads from the TRT aTFM repertoire are taken as an example and evaluated in the frame of their sub problems. The research is qualitative and descriptive. As a result of the research, it is remarkable to see that the ballads of Zaral? Halil SÖYLER have a vast variety of rhythm and focus, as well as have similarities of maqam. Moreover, it is concluded that some of the recordings of Zaral? Halil SÖYLER and their sheet music have some inaccuracies between them.
