Abstract

Author(s): Sümeyye DERİN• Nilüfer VOLTAN ACAR

This study was conducted to explain the basic concepts of analytical therapy and analyze the scenes from the movie “The Dangerous Method” related to these concepts. So the purpose of the study, initially the concepts of persona, shadow, anima-animus, ego, individualisation and integration, old wise man archetype and developmental stages were explained separately by exemplifying them with the relevant scenes from the movie. In this study is revealed how the concepts of analytical therapy are reflected in the movie and how Sabina and Jung, the major characters of the movie, experience “the individualisation and the integration” throughout the movie in terms of analytical psychology. Consequently, it can be suggested that by making people aware of both the basic concepts of analytical therapy and the concrete representations of these concepts in movies this could be used as an invaluable resource for both academicians and students in psychological counseling education.
