The aim of the current study is to determine the specific mistakes of the Turkish students learning German as a foreign language. The data regarding the error frequencies are collected on the basis of an empirical investigation. In the first part of the study, an error analysis of the students' essays was used to create a classification of the errors. It is important not to treat all mistakes equally; therefore, selections of specific frequent mistakes have been presented. The error analysis was created on a grid consisting of four columns. The number of mistakes was shown in the first column, the originals sentence in the second, the corrected form in the third and the type of mistake in the fourth column. In this way, an error statistic has been developed, by determining the error levels or fields, and therefore, corrective measures have been taken to correct these mistakes. In this study, final exam papers based on the Writing Skills (ALÖ 107) of the first year students from the Faculty of Education in the department of German teacher training, which was carried out in the academic year of 2015-2016 winter semester at Ondokuz May?s University in Samsun, have been analysed. In the second part of the study, a graphical representation of the error frequencies as well as their interpretations and the possible reasons for the error formation, have been explained. The last part contains suggestions for correcting the frequent mistakes.
