WOMAN OF TURKMENISTAN IN 19th CENTURY ACCORDING TRAVELERS

There are records relating to situation of women in society which belongs to different periods of Turkish History. Together with the important sources of Turkish History like Inscriptions of Kök Türk and Uygur Periods, Dede Korkut Stories, records about Turkish women are also met in the productions of travelers from different countries. In our this study, by using the records of travelers in 19 th Century, we dealed with the role of woman in social and economic life in Turkmenistan. Travelers visited the geography of Turkistan in 19 th century allocated sections for Turkmen women in their consequences. In this century and in anterior period, all travelers visited Turkmen people have attracted attention to the situation of woman in Turkmen society. By comparing Turkmen women with others living in other Muslim societies, they have attracted attention to that; Turkmen women have more distinction and differences than the other women. According to the examples in the sources, Turkmen women perform in every area of society actively. Women, together with working to correspond the basic requirements of their houses, also help their husbands and make an effort for education of children according to tradition and custom.
