The study of tenses can be done from two perspectives: grammatical and semantic. In this article, our viewpoint is grammatical. We present a contrastive analysis of tenses in French and Etsak? within the framework of the Strong Minimalist Thesis, the 2007 model of Noam Chomsky’s Principles and Parameters Approach of Generative Grammar. The pedagogical implications of our findings, arising from the contrastive analysis, for the teaching of French tenses to native speakers of Etsak? language in particular, and of other related languages, in general, are also discussed.
