Author(s): Muharrem ÖZDEN

Throughout human history, the basic human needs have been gathered around three main themes. These are food (including water), clothing, and shelter. Naturally, mankind has needed tools and possessions throughout history to meet those needs. Even though the images of the tools and possessions have changed, the functional properties of these materials have remained almost the same since the beginning of human kind. The Turks have been a nomadic and warrior community since they appeared in human history. They have used the materials related to war and migration with great enrichment. By the period Turks settled down and a change in the interest fields they have been involved in was recorded, the use of tools and possessions has also changed. Since Thrace region is a continuation of an established civilization of Turks in the Anatolian geography, it is also a kind of continuation in cultural perspective. This study, which classifies the names of tools and possessions used by the Turks living in this region, is of a great importance in terms of revealing the richness of Turkish vocabulary.
