Abstract

Author(s): Harun DUMAN, Turan SAĞIR

The ancient societies have included many items within their beliefs. One of them is also a dragon. While dragon, which appears from underground, is seen as a symbol of famine and evil in some societies, it is seen as a symbol of fertility and goodness in other societies. The root of the dragon word, which is from serpent family, is Persian. In general, the arrival of spring in the beliefs of ancient societies begins when the great God starts the war with the dragon and kills it. In this work we have mentioned about the struggles with the dragons and gods of the Mesopotamian, Hittite, Greek, Egyptian, Scandinavian and Indian mythologies.
