This study has been primarily based on the publications of the period though other academic works have been also consulted. In this study, it has been aimed to answer the following questions: Why did ?nönü need this travel? What kind of relation did he want between the political parties? What were the requirements for safely continuation of the multiparty regime in Turkey? What were the impacts of the travel on the ruling and opposition parties? It was observed that ?nönü’s travel, complying with the Declaration of 12 July 1947, created a compromise between provincial organizations of the parties and democracy gained an impetus from periphery to center.
